Your site gets visitors but no enquiries: the six most common causes

Traffic without contact is not an SEO problem. The six flaws that block enquiries, how to spot them and in what order to fix them.

01

First check the problem is real

Start by looking at who comes. A hundred visits a month, half of them bots or searches for your own name, will not produce enquiries whatever the site. Filter internal visits, identify landing pages and real queries.

  • Compare channels too: a form, a phone, an e-mail.
  • Many sites receive phone enquiries that are never attributed to the site.
  • A dedicated number or a question at reception is enough to measure it.

02

The offer is not understood in five seconds

The first screen must say what you do, for whom, and where. An abstract tagline or a full-screen image with no text leaves the visitor guessing. Test it: show the page for five seconds to someone who does not know you and ask what you sell.

Each service page must answer one precise question, with the scope, a price range or the quoting method, and a single call to action.

The first screen must say what you do, for whom, and where.

03

Contact is too far or too heavy

A contact button visible on every screen, a form of three to four fields, a tappable number on mobile. Every extra field loses enquiries. Qualifying questions can wait for the first conversation.

State the response time and what happens next. Uncertainty about what follows is a frequent reason not to send.

04

Nothing proves you are reliable

Concrete projects with the problem, the solution and the result, reviews with names, a real address and a photo of the team. A site without proof asks for a leap of faith most visitors refuse.

Complete legal notices and an honest about page contribute to that trust, especially for a first contact with a small business.

05

The site is slow or broken on phones

Most visits happen on mobile. A form where the keyboard hides the send button, a menu that will not open, a load time of several seconds: each of these drives away visitors who were ready to write.

Test your own site on a recent phone and on an older model, on 4G, all the way to actually sending an enquiry. You will see what your analytics do not show.

06

Fix things in the right order

Start with what blocks technically, then the first screen, then contact, then proof. Change one thing at a time and allow a few weeks to measure. A full redesign is only needed when several causes are structural.

If traffic itself is insufficient or off-target, the work lies elsewhere: content, local search, or the choice of queries you target.

Frequently asked questions

What enquiry rate is normal?
It varies widely by sector and channel. Rather than chasing an average, measure your own and improve it step by step.
Does live chat help?
Only if someone actually answers within a minute. An unanswered chat does worse than an honest form.
Do I need to rebuild the whole site?
Not necessarily. Many sites recover enquiries by fixing the first screen, the form and speed, without touching the rest.
